In the preface of this book, Turner explains that he did not intend this book to be a history of Nottoway County, but a collection of notes and pictures of some of the families and homes of the county. However, all these years later, the historical significance of his book is plain to see. Within it's first pages there is an excellent picture of Nottoway Court House (unfortunately there is no date given in the book as to when it was taken). You can view the pic is on this website on the Historical Significance page.  He also writes about General Grant's men in 1865 ransacking the Nottoway Court House and using the "Old Brick" Church for a stable. Although hard to find, this book is a true gem and can be found in the Blackstone and Crewe Libraries.
